Science Communication

Effectively sharing complex scientific concepts with diverse audiences has been a cornerstone of my career. I specialize in making conservation science accessible and engaging, whether through public speaking, digital outreach, or hands-on events. My work combines storytelling with data-driven strategies to educate and inspire action across various communities.

As the coordinator of Sea Turtle Week, I have successfully utilized social media to expand its reach, engaging millions of people globally. In 2024 alone, Sea Turtle Week reached over 7 million users, generated 1,600 social media mentions, and attracted 17,000 website visitors from 101 countries. Through targeted campaigns and dynamic content, I have grown Sea Turtle Week’s following to over 14,000 social media followers across Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. On YouTube, I produced a video series showcasing partner organizations and conservation initiatives, which garnered 1,700 views. I developed Sea Turtle Week lesson plans for grades K-12, which were downloaded and used in classrooms from the U.S. to Indonesia.  Additionally, to bring Sea Turtle Week offline, I collaborated with Oceanic Society on the 2024 Global Ocean Cleanup, bringing together 2,243 volunteers who conducted 51 beach cleanups across 20+ countries, covering 54.17 miles and collecting 39 tons of trash.

During my time at SEE Turtles Inc., I spearheaded social media campaigns that significantly increased the organization’s digital footprint and communicated their environmental messaging globally. By developing and executing a strategic content plan across Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, I achieved an average 83% growth in followers over 12 months. My work included creating engaging daily posts, managing multiple program accounts, and launching a Zero Waste Holiday Blog Series. Weekly Fun Fact Friday videos showcased sea turtle facts that reached millions digitally. My work not only amplified SEE Turtles’ conservation message but also strengthened its global community of supporters and advocates.

Beyond digital platforms, I’ve shared my research and conservation expertise directly with audiences through guest lectures at Keen College and community educational talks at the Long Beach Township Marine Education Field Station. In 2013, while conducting field research at the Duke Marine Lab on hatchling loggerhead sea turtles, I wrote a guest article for the Coastal Review Online about sea turtle hearing following a desire to understand my research arose amongst the local community after seeing me working on the beach. These experiences have allowed me to connect with students and local communities, sparking interest in wildlife conservation and the broader environmental challenges facing our coastal communities.
